TEN PRINCIPALS OF FINANCIAL FREEDOM

1. EARN LITTLE BY LITTLE

Over a long period of time. Crucify your ambition to make big bucks. Avoid deals or getting into any investment or job too quickly. Luke 12:15, Prov. 30:8

2. SPEND LESS THAN WHAT YOU MAKE

Develop a spending plan. Tithe 10% even in debt. Give to God first and trust Him to meet your needs. Learn to be content. 1st Tim 6:6-17 Phil 4:19 , Heb 13:5

3. SAVE LITTLE BY LITTLE

Develop habit of saving. You already have habit of spending. Pay yourself as much as possible during your earning years or harvest preparing for retirement or the winter ahead.

4. AVOID DEBT WITH A PASSION

You are pre-committing future earnings. Wait 30 days on all purchases over $100. Must earn $600 / month to pay back $400/ month. In Debt….read Psalms Debt is your enemy. Call your creditors, agree on a payment plan and stick to it. May take 5-10 years, but there is a way out and God will help you if you ask.

5. MINIMIZE COST OF AUTOS

Do not use your car to impress people. Consider the depreciation cost along with the maintenance, insurance, upkeep, and fuel. It is usually the largest factor.

6. PAY OFF YOUR HOUSE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE

Keep mortgage payments low. Payments plus utilities should be less than 40% of total income after taxes and tithe. Do not depend on wife’s income.

7. USE YOUR SPOUSE’S INPUT

You may have an ego problem. Must be in agreement. Not your way or her way but God’s way. God gave you a helper……use her input but not her income.

8. EXPECT AND PLAN FOR THE UNEXPECTED

Carry proper amount of death, health, and liability insurance. Both of you need to be involved in these decisions…..especially death. 80% die with improper wills.

9. UNDERSTAND THE OPPORTUNITY COST OF CONSUMPTION

Credit cards may cause you to spend as much as $2000/ year more. Over a 20 year period this cost to you is not 20 times $2000 = $80,000 but $200,000! If you put $2000 / year in an IRA at 8% it will yield $200,000 in 20 years.

10. MAKE YOURSELFS ACCOUNTABLE TO AN OLDER GODLY COUPLE

They may be able to see problems you cannot. This will make you set objectives, communicate, and be held accountable for your decisions.
